What exactly is a transformative agreement? How do they work? Will they replace the traditional subscription model? How are publishers responding? What does this mean for academic libraries and their collection budgets? Changes are underway and understanding the shifting landscape will help librarians as they prepare for the future. During this free workshop, participants will learn the basics about open access and scholarly publication. MCLS Group Purchasing Manager Stephanie Davis will outline the trends, define the vocabulary, examine current transformative agreement models and help participants gain a better understanding of how scholarly publishing is changing and the impact it will have on libraries, librarians, publishers and the public. Question and answer time included.

Instructor: Stephanie Davis

Stephanie D. Davis is the Group Purchasing Manager at MCLS. In this role, she oversees the purchasing of library eResources for MCLS member libraries. This involves developing new business as well as negotiating contracts and license agreements for group purchases. Stephanie’s background includes working as a Reference & Instruction Librarian at Spring Arbor University as well as at several community colleges. Prior to moving to MCLS, Stephanie served as the Library Director at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, Michigan. Stephanie is passionate about helping libraries and their users. Since coming to MCLS, Stephanie has learned much about transformative agreements and is excited about their possibilities and the potential of open access. Her greatest joy is spending time with her family, which includes her husband, two grown daughters, and four grandchildren.
