Details
FRBR is a conceptual model for the bibliographic universe used as an underlying framework for the cataloging standard RDA. This class will explain the FRBR model and show how the concepts of FRBR are applied in RDA cataloging records. An understanding of FRBR is fundamental to understanding and using bibliographic records created according to RDA.
Topics will include:
An introduction to the FRBR model
An explanation of FRBR principles applied in RDA: attributes and relationships associated with the entities work, expression, manifestation, and item
Bibliographic examples of the FRBR in RDA cataloging records for various formats
Practical application of FRBR concepts in RDA cataloging
Exercises to test understanding of FRBR

Instructor: Andrea M. Morrison
Andrea M. Morrison has worked as a library staff and librarian and as an original monographic cataloger at Indiana University, Bloomington. In 2013, she accepted the position of Head, Monographic Text Cataloging. Andrea participates in the Program for Cooperative Cataloging programs: Monographic Bibliographic Record Program (BIBCO); Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO); and Subject Authority Cooperative Program (SACO). Andrea is also an adjunct professor at Indiana University, Department of Information and Library Science, School of Informatics and Computing, and an adjunct lecturer for University of Washington, Information School. She regularly leads cataloging workshops for Indiana Library Federation and the Ohio Valley Group of Technical Services Librarians, and we are thrilled to welcome her as an instructor for MCLS. She has served for many years on ALA and ALA Government Documents Round Table cataloging committees, currently serving on Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access (CC:DA).
