The Foundations of Digital Literacy workshop is designed to help library staff gain confidence in everyday interactions with technology and is intended for participants who would like or feel they need a more basic introduction to digital literacy topics. Knowledge and skills taught and practiced during the workshop will include:
- A basic understanding of hardware including internal and external components of various devices
- How various types of networks function
- The composition of webpages and websites
- Various browsers and their functionality
- Search engines and tips to perform an effective web search
- Tips on how to evaluate search results
- Cloud computing
- The internet of things
- Information on digital privacy
As this workshop will be presented virtually through Zoom, participants will need to have a basic knowledge of how to log in to a Zoom meeting. This workshop is intended to be an interactive course that involves discussion and hands-on practice, and participants should plan to have a microphone enabled, and if possible, to turn their cameras on for full participation. If you are unable to do this, please email training@mcls.org or seaboltp@mcls.org to discuss options. This workshop will only be available as live virtual instruction.
This class will be held online. All registered attendees will receive an email with login information about one week before the date of the class.

No group registrationsInstructor Pam Seabolt Prerequisites As this workshop will be presented virtually through Zoom, participants will need to have a basic knowledge of how to log in to a Zoom meeting. Credits This workshop will provide 5 contact hours of training and will qualify for 5 Technology LEUs for Indiana Library staff. Audience ALL Topic Technology Notes MCLS is dedicated to providing a harassment-free environment at all meetings and events, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion. Terms/Registration Information It is highly recommended that all registrants register for this workshop at least SEVEN DAYS PRIOR to the workshop date. If you register after that, you must additionally send an email to training@mcls.org that you have registered past the deadline. You will receive a general email confirmation immediately upon successfully registering for this workshop. All registered attendees will receive an additional email with login information approximately one week prior to the 1st class date. If you do not receive an invitation to the meeting by noon of the day prior, please email training@mcls.org.
